Our 4 days Nyungwe forest will give you a chance of combining two Rwanda safaris both a chimpanzee trekking safari in Nyungwe forest national park with a beach vacation on Lake Kivu.
You will have a fantastic opportunity with our 4-Day Nyungwe Forest & Lake Kivu tour to go chimpanzee trekking in the wild, go on a canopy tour, and take a boat excursion to see the sun set over Lake Kivu at Karongi, previously Kibuye.

Tour Highlights

• Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and drive to Nyungwe forest national park.
• Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking experience in Cyamudongo.
• Day 3: Uwinka Canopy walks in the morning and transfers to Karongi or Kibuye.
• Day 4: Drive back to Kigali.

Day by Day Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick Up From Kigali And Drive To Nyungwe Forest 

After breakfast, you will begin your drive to the Nyungwe Forest National Park via the King’s Palace in Nyanza, where you will learn about the history of some of Rwanda’s earliest kings. Then, you will continue to Huye, where you will visit an ethnographic museum and have lunch before continuing on to the Nyungwe Forest for check-in, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience In Cyamudongo.

The trek typically begins early after breakfast with a briefing with rangers at the Gisakura Park office, followed by a drive to Cyamudongo, where you will begin your trek into the forest to meet the chimpanzees. After finding the chimpanzees, you will spend an hour with them. Drive to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Uwinka Canopy Walks & Transfers To Karongi Or Kibuye.

Enjoy breakfast and drive to Uwinka for the canopy walk. After taking in the breathtaking walk, you, return to the lodge for refreshments before continuing on to Karongi on the banks of Lake Kivu for a boat excursion at sunrise complete with beverages and snacks. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Drive Back To Kigali.

Enjoy your morning breakfast, park up your luggage and check out of the lodge to embark on your journey back home.

Getting There

The trip will start from Kigali International Airport to Nyungwe National Park to Cyamudongo to Lake Kivu and you will be dropped off at Kigali International Airport.
