Introduction
This is a very culturally enriching and interesting heritage place to visit once you reach in kigali. This palace is one of the mostly visited memorial places in kigali. It is also one of the tourist attractions in the city and which was also said to be a home for the late juvenal habyarimana who was Rwanda’s president before the 1994 genocide. This palace is located only 4kilometers from kanombe airstrip which is also found in the east of the Rwanda’s capital city in kigali.
How can one reach the presidential palace? To reach this presidential palace museum , one can use all the transport means he or she prefers for example one can use the airport road where by he or she will drive for a few kilometers till he or she reaches the kanombe military hospital .From there you will continue to drive and you will find a tarmac road full of dirst .The journey will continue then reach a certain school known as kanombe primary school where you will find a place where the road divides its self into several routes .You are advised not to get stark from there just to make sure you turn on your left and you drive straight to the gate of the museum .This museum is said to have been visited daily by different people from different regions .Visiting this place starts at exactly 9am till 5 pm in the evening . NOTE, entering the presidential palace is not free, but it costs 6000 Rwf for the non-residents and 5000 Rwf for the residents.
The house of the presidential palace museum
It is said that the presidential palace museum looked un pleasant to most of the visitors who would come to see the palace and visit it, therefore to solve that he called for the renovation of his house in 1976.Immediately, the construction started and by 1980, the construction was done and he then shifted to his house. This knowledge was got from the French architect who was always highed by habyarimana to construct for him a very nice house that would deserve him. The new constructed house of the president had rooms inside which were his own secret rooms and they had secret routes ,one of the routes would lead to the room where this president would practice his secrete witchcraft as one of the cultural norms , the other route was leading the rooms where he would keep his disobedient people from and always discipline them .The new constructed house for the president has rooms which are strange and scaring while the other rooms are good and have no problem .but all this is said to have come from the president’s own thinking of worry and prediction as a president during the terrible time in Rwanda’s history . The house of the president had rooms which had weapons put into the television cabinets, other rooms where he used to perform his rituals and witch craft from, he also used to make sacrifices of animals with his witch doctor. The house has a compound which is well cleaned and it also has gardens which are well maintained with flowers and nice grass that keep the compound look good. More on that, the compound has a swimming pool, a court where they play tennis from, a pitch, a bar which is well equipped with all the types of drinks. Behind the house of the president, there was always a python whose work was to take off the evil spirits that would come to attack the president and it was also meant to impart fear in any of the president’s visitors who would come to destroy him and those who used not like him.
